reconnecting Atomic 4 exhaust

My rebuilt Atomic 4 is back in place, making final connections this week. I don't recall a gasket between the exhaust pipe and the manifold connection, but it's been over two years since I pulled the engine and I may have simply forgotten. The two-bolt flange fits snugly, but of course this is not a place to encourage fume leakage. Anyone with definite advice on this re-hook-up will be greatly appreciated. Also, need to purchase ignition wires (spark plug wires, wire to coil). A good source out there? Thanks. John (Tarka, Pearson 30- Wanderer, 1970, in Traverse City, MI)

Atomic-4 forum ....

go to www.moyermarine.com select "forum" in the sidebar. OR ... to have your question directly answered by the world's guru of Atomic-4 (and you cant get an answer from the forum)simply call and ask Don Moyer based on your exact exhaust configuration, etc. hope this helps

Thanks

Thanks for the tip about where to get an expert's advice. I'll go there. Probably also where I can order the spark plug wires, too, I'm guessing. JP

that copper 'tail-pipe' is probably at the end

of its life. Pearson used a copper/iron tailpipe and copper 'heat riser' in the exhaust systems of the P30. these were very well built but due to their now advanced age are prone to pin hole leaks that may allow water to drain back into the engine cylinders (ruining the engine) . There was an asbestos gasket between the manifold and the curved copper tail pipe and again in the flanges of the heat riser. You can rebuild the heat riser but that curved (pipe in a pipe) tailpipe is very difficult to rebuild. Sorry for the 'bad' news.

Gaskets Available

Moyer will have gaskets. Be sure to use one. Don't want to go down the water looking like a Bar B Que grill. You can also check with anyone that is a Universal engine Dealer. Spark Plug wires can be bought at NAPA. Good Luck

Interested in your Atomic $ refit

I am rebuilding the exhaust of my Atomic 4 on my 1970 Morgan 33. I already replaced the original 62" water jacketed steel double walled muffler about ten yrs ago, now I'm looking to install a VETUS waterlock but an concerned as almost all piping will be below waterline. Would like to see pics of how you treated your muffler. thanks.

plug wires/exhaust flange

Hi John: I build the best plugs wires for the Atomic 4. No modesty here. I use mallory stuff and it all fits. I think I also have the cheapest price but have not checked latley, too busy. I will also make the coil wire to your length if you want to mount the coil remote. See at nuclearengine. Yes there should be a gasket. Take the flange to the auto parts store and find one that fits. They usually have a wall rack full of them. I have a 1969 coaster, a cousin to your wanderer. I just got back from an afternoon of good sailing. A rare thing here is the pacific northwet, warm and wind at the same time. will
