Dear Sailors, I,m interested in getting my sails cleaned and reconditioned. Please let me know of the name of the sail loft that will do it. Thanks

Sailcare

I had mine done from them and they looked like new. Very reasonable price also.

They are the BEST....

I have an 86' Hunter 25.5, and they did my sails last april....and they were FANTISTIC. These folks do a great job on the sails and their prices are very good...I highly recommend them...They do a great job...Send them now though if you want them by spring...

Mine are there

I sent mine to Sailcare about a month ago and they said they would be ready in mid-march. If you live near warm weather, be sure to get them there soon. Check the related link.

Follow All Of The Advice Here

and send them in to SailCare NOW!! I have two complete sets in there now, and this is the sixth time they have done some sails for me (different boats, etc). I have recommended them to many people, and NOT ONE has been disappointed. The sails that are there now need some minor repairs, and they assessed that, sent me a quote and I replied, rapidly, to have them go forward on these sails. I have had them do the cleaning, etc., but have, also, had them do tell-tales, number and insignia work, etc. They come back folded and crisp and look and feel new. Do you get the feeling that I can't praise them enough?? Oh yeah, I sent in a questionable sail to them once and asked them about the "life expectancy" vs. new. They told me that if their people didn't feel I'd get at least 5 more years, they would not give me a quote. Fair enough, huh?

Sail care...

I have a new Hunter 260 and am wondering after reading the related link from Paul re SailCare should I remove sails and fold them away for winter? Now they are stored in boat still attached to the boom but folded neatly as possible with cover on. Headsail is roller reefing still rolled up again inside of boat. Jesse

Jesse...

If the boat is put away, I, personally, think it is wise to strip the sails off the boat. Why let them weather? The element are what kills sails. Even though they have the sail covers on them, they should not have constant exposure. I winter my boat in the Northeast, so it's foolish not to remove them. Try to extend the life of your sails.

Thanks

Boat is under metal shed I built but I think I will still take your advice. Thanks

Definitely go with Sail Care! They did my

main last year and when the returned it I thought they screwed something up and sent me sombody else's brand new sail. I also had them install new slides and some other mods. Reasonable pricing plus a pleasure to deal with. This year they've got my headsail.

I gotta ask the question

How can sailcare state that their process will provide a "sail that maintained like-new performance" when the process they use states, "The existing shape of the sail will be maintained since the LaMauney Process is designed to control the bias stretch of the cloth". If your sails are old and the cloth is stretched, all you'll end up with is sails that are clean, stiff, and still baggy. IMO you'll never get "like-new performance" from a process that just puts a shine on your old jalopy.

Dave, ask SailCare...

...to properly answer your question. Then post the response back here so that we all won't have to speculate. If I can get a few thousand more miles out of my old 'jalopy', it's better than paying for a new one until I really have to ;-)

The Answer

Paul and others I asked the following question to sailcare and got the following results. Q: "Can your process return the shape of my 12 year old main back to it's > "like-new performance" shape? The draft has migrated noticibly aft as the > sail has aged, but other than that and the softer feel of the dacron, it is in good shape." A: "David, I can't guarantee that the processing will bring it back to the original shape, but I can guarantee it will be close. Our processing will remove about 75% to90% of the bais stretch out of the sail. If you have further questions, please feel free to call me at 800-433-7245. Thanks, Nancy" Have those expounding the virtues of this process seeing these same results?

Mainsail Shrunk

I gave my Main to SailCare last winter. Of course it looked and felt great, but it had also shrunk. This tells me that "some" of the stretch was taken out. I knew it had shrunk because the full battons would no longer fit. had to cut about 1 - 2 inches off. IMHO, I feel that performance was gained with the process.
