What hull cleaner and/or wax products do you use and recommend to keep your hull looking new. I've used the "Collinite" products and was wondering if anyone has a better experience with a different cleaner.
A couple of years ago there was a comparison of waxes and cleaners in Practical Sailor. The top two waxes were hard stuff but the third place was West Marine's Cleaner Wax which is liquid. I've been using the WM cleaner/Wax since then--at least once a year. My boat is in the water all year long. I also finish it up with a teflon wax which is very easy to put on. I really don't work that hard at it with these two waxes. I get complements on the boat.
I just saw a friends boat that was waxed last year and it looks like a new boat.He uses wm wax with teflon in it and thats all he uses and I would love to see my boat look that good,I will be using the same stuff this year. nick
Lewis:Collinite is an excellent wax. One thing you may want to consider is using Island Girl Pink to clean the hull, then seal it with SilkenSeal. They you can use your Collinite Wax for the finishing touch. The I/G will clean a condition the gelcoat, the silken seal will seal it and the Collinite will be the finishing touch. This makes rewaxing much easier and protect the gelcoat too.
The Collinite fiberglass cleaner is excellent as well as the Fleetwax paste wax which was rated the best by Practical Sailor several years ago.I found lower prices on the cleaner at a local auto parts store. They stock the boat version as well as the car version (which I don't see on their web site now).See their link below.
