removehtml]While it seems the the product "K.O.", is generally accepted as the superior holding tank treatment on the market, I was wondering if anyone had any experience with a product called "ODØRLØS". This product was recently recommended to me and would just like to hear if any of you have had any experience with this product and how you think the 2 products compare. Would like your input too, Peggy? Thanks!Error: Error: expected [/URL], but found [/removehtml] instead[/removehtml]

smelly tanks

After trying a few combinations, I have had excellant results with controlling any odors by: Using C.P. by raritan for general head cleaning and Odorlos for my tank tratment. The K.O. did not do it for my system nor the Admirals Approval. Joe s/v Trinity

Odorlos is an excellent product

In fact, Odorlos and K.O. are the only two products I recommend. Unlike a live bacteria product, Odorlos does have be added every few days. So it's important to read and FOLLOW the directions.

Fresh Water Flush

We stopped using sea water to flush and most of our odors disappeared. Actually we have no smells now. Something about sea water and sewage makes a bad smell. Some of the treatments use formaldehyde which causes cancer!!!! One treatment that looks good to me is bubbling air into the holding tank contents. Most of the smells come from anerobic bacteria. Adding air promotes aerobic bacteria and constantly moves a small stream of air through the tank and out the vent. Sulfur compounds useually stink and air oxidises these compounds making the stink go away. Another good practice is to pump out the holding tank regularly. Especially if you won't be back to the boat for a week or two.

Depends On AIr Circulation

If you have good venting, KO is better because it does not require recharging between pumpouts. Odorlos by contrast requires weekly additions to keep it activated. As I understand it, KO uses the oxygen in the tank to keep the bacteria active whereas Odorlos generates it internally. So, this is kind of a test for me; we'll see what Peggy has to say about my representations. :} Rick D. PS: despite Peggy's insistence that it is wasteful to use both, they are compatible and I do and have zip odor. (I only use the Odorlos weekly tho. I also use CP for cleaning. I also use KO once in a while in the bilge.)

Odor los works great

I use it in the bigger Sealand port a potty with no complaints. It seems to last longer than what the instructions recommends. I can go about two weeks without having to add any more to the system. Manny

This thread reminds me of the guy that said he was

gonna get a goat. His friend asked where he planned to keep this goat. He said I'll keep it in my room. What are you gonna do about the smell? Well the goat will just have to get used to it. ;D

Ross!

lol. Best laugh I've had on this site since a few years ago when a fellow asked how to deal with "that funny taste" in his holding tanks.

Odorlos works for us too!

Andy: We have been using Odorlos in our tank for several years. We have also got many folks in our marina using it too and most everyone is sticking with the product. We have also used KO with success. If you are flushing with raw seawater, you may want to try flush out the line with fresh water when leaving for a few days. This will help clear the critters out of your system.
