My father just purchased a 146 and I want to get some extras to make his boat more comfortable and convenient. Can you guys suggest the must have items worth getting for this model? I was thinking something like cockpit organizer or something like that. He has some back problems, so maybe a helm cushion? I don't know too much about sailing so I appreciate the help.

Accessories

The Hunter seat cushions are a must. In addition, we bought some of those square flotation cushions which we use as backrests and extra padding to sit on. Last summer we found some inexpensive, padded folding stadium seats which are nice for lounging when you have a steady breeze and don't have to tack for a while. We bought ours at Target, but you can buy special portable boat seats at West Marine or other marine supply store. Binoculars are nice to have, depending on the size of the lake. Cup holders can be nice, but be sure to get some that have two suction cups on them as they are more stable. Good luck in your search. Of course, the best accessory would be to have his son or daughter go along for a ride on his new boat!

Things I found useful

Although he may never need it, a mast float (the smallest hobbie cat float will do) adds some security if the boat turns over. Also I found a "boom kicker" to be great to keep the boom out of the cockpit.
