I need to replace the two wet-cell 4D's in my house bank asap. I do not want to go with gel or AGM because of the cost. I'm looking at Interstate Battery or Harbormaster (Northeast Battery). Any comments on either brand (longevity, etc) - or suggestions of others? I wish Trojan made a 4D... Thanks, Derek

Trojans

Derek Why not buy Trojan 6 volt golf carts? If you are replacing 2 4Ds, then you can get pretty much the same amp hours with four golf carts, two each wired in series for 12 volts and the two groups wired in parallel, for 450 amp hours with T-105s. I just priced them at about $65 each from Trojan. You'd have to add wiring to it, but it make a lot of sense if you're looking for longevity and want a long lasting product. And what makes you think Trojan doesn't make 12 V batteries? Stu

re Trojans

Stu, I had been planning to use Trojan T105's until today. Four of them will definitely fit my battery box footprint - however, they are taller and I would have to build up the box by about 1 1/2 inches which isn't so easy to do. I know all the advantages of the golf cart batteries, and wish I could use them. Trojan does make 12 volt batteries, they just don't make a 4D size. They make an 8D but they are too big for my box.

Derek, Then try...

American Battery. Their Powerstride US-2200 have 225 AH each like the T-105s. They are not higher than standard batteries, about 9 1/2 inches. But I guess if you can't fit a Trojan in your box, these won't fit either. Seems like your box is very low in height. Good luck, Stu www.powerstridebattery.com

read the Battery FAQ

see: http://www.uuhome.de/william.darden/ When I needed batteries, I just bought the freshest deep cycles I could find (Wal-Mart - still on the pallette). jv

I concur with Stu

I have been using the Trojan golf cart batteries for some time now and would suggest that it would be a great change even if you have to raise the top of the battery box. You will not be disapointed with these batteries. That have great re-charging capabilities, which returns a long life span. Not to mention the price is super also. Just my 2 cents.
