Hello All:
I am looking for some ideas on a good cleaner for the non-skid deck areas. Maxine is kept in a slip so, fortunately, we don't have a bird problem. However the non-skid deck areas are soiled by dust and dirt in the air, and mildew. My approach now is Fantastic with brush and stream of water. This approach is not very effective. There must be a better approach and cleaner to use.
Any recommendations as to cleaner and technique.
Thanks
Rick

I use the Star Brite Non-Skid Deck Cleaner from Walmart. Does a really nice job. Just rinse, squirt, scrub, then rinse.

I have used Starbrite Non Skid Deck Cleaner also. Works pretty good; however, not too good for cleaning bird droppings.

Krazy Clean - It's relatively mild Oxalic Acid. Use a medium plastic brush after wetting the area.
You shouldn't use it on wax, because I think will remove the wax -- but if you want to get stains, bird crap, etc. out, this stuff works.

I used Tilex, which is basically bleach. Did a good job of getting grime off (mildew, tree sap, etc.) without scrubbing.

I had a problem with nuclear bird droppings that nothing would work on. Until I tried vinegar. Bang, took the poop right off the deck.

Rick,

I have a small very portable power washer from Lowe’s. Cost about $100. I think it’s called green machine. I use the wide spray nozzle about 2 or 3 inches from the surface. Works very well to get the mold and mildew off of the non skid. In fact I did the boat this morning.

Power washers will clean a lot things very well -- BUT, with very little using them on the wrong stuff, they can do a LOT of damage. In a moment, you can age wood a decade, erode bedding sealing, drive moisture into crack in fiberglass that are otherwise incidental, etc.

I know people that have used these with good success -- but I also have heard the confessions of those that misused them innocently with sad consequences.

Wow! This is why this is such a great board for sailors. Two takeaways I have is get the Star Brite cleaner (on order from Amazon) and get the Lowe's small power washer from Marc. It is an incredible good feeling to look at your deck and cockpit squeekey clean.
Thanks everyone for your ideas.
