Greetings, I am planning on having a bimini made for my 1985 Hunter 25.5 and I am looking for a canvas person to do the job for me. I want some custom stuff so I can't go with the premade biminis. So I was wondering if anyone out there could recommend a canvas person? I am in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia so the person would have to be someone nearby. Thanks for all your help.

Bimini

Little Bay Canvas & Sails at 200 W. 21st Street, Norfolk, 533-9182. They made a new main cover for us and did a wonderful job. We too are looking to have a bimini made for our H30 and will definitely talk to them first. s/v Island Time

Suppliers on this site

Most all canvas work is custom somehow. I used the people on this site to do a custom bimini that would fir on my aft railing, and behind the mainsheet which goes fromt he end of the boom to a traveler aft of the cockpit. They did a great job at a very reasonable price, using my measurements and drawings. David

EMERGENCY TILLER

I HAVE A 1985 CATALINA 30 WITH A EDSON PEDESTAL STEERING WHEEL. I UNDERSTAND THAT A EMERGENCY TILLER IS AVAILABLE IF THE WIRES BRAKE. WHERE CAN I OBTAIN THIS EMERGENCY TILLER??

Emergency Tiller

Actually, you don't really need to spend the money on a tiller. If the cables break, a tiller will be too long and the pedistal will be in the way of steering. What I use is a 2X4 cut to length. Just drill a hole in it and keep the proper bolt and nut attached to it for use. It doesn't have to be pretty in an emergency. Only used it once, and it was great. Hope this helps. Make your own?

You might take a look at a book called THIS OLD BOAT by Don Casey. He explains how you can make you own and not only save some money, but learn some neat skills that will lead you to making and maintaining other canvas items.

pre mades and custom stuff?

How about a premade and have it modified? I've purchased several premades from Overtons and they all worked great for a fraction of the typical "custom" price

Trying it myself

I am ordering materials from Sailrite (they have a web site)and trying to sew my own this spring. They also have kits and are very helpful if you contact them.
