I have an 88 Cat. 30 SRFK 5071. I want to replace the original Hood roller furling as it's beginning to show it's age. It has an continuous furler line which I am less than pleased with. I would appreciate recommendations for moderately priced roller furlings and model # if possible. Also, has anyone had experience with CDI and what is your opinion. Much thanks

Call Hood.
They offer single line replacement unit that replaces the current continuous line with a single line for less than 600 bucks. you get the lower unit and replace in about an hour. looked good to me. wayne

Nothing wrong with the Hood
If you have a Hood 800 or 900 series, the upgrade from Hood will work. They do not offer the upgrade for the 700 series. As long as the bearings in the halyard swivel and drum are ok, there is no reason to abandon the Hood. The only thing to watch for is that Hoods rely on halyard tension to work properly. As long as the halyard is tight, the Hoods work pretty well. Even the continuous line (LD) type still give good service. I don't think a CDI would be an upgrade for your Hood.

Thank you gentlemen. I will have to see what model my Hood furler is. I tried a Web search and could not find any info. on the upgrade for the Hood unit you both referred to. Do you know where I might locate this upgrade?

Thank you, Moody. I will definitely look into this upgrade. I have already put in a call to my rigger as i am not terribly handy at these kind of things. I think this is just what I'm looking for.
