Recommendation on Fans

I am getting close to finally getting my C22 in the water.
Does anyone have recommendations on dc wired or rechargeable battery fans? I would like 3 or 4 to use as needed.

Better plan on large solar panels and spare house battery that many fans will suck up some electricity.

I am a fan (!?) of Caframo fans. Low power draw and low noise. I have one of these in the saloon and I love it. I didn't believe the power numbers from the manufacturer so I measured and their numbers are good.. I like that it has a timer so it can be set to turn off after folks are asleep and the boat cools down. Kinda expensive but worth it in my opinion.

I installed four Hella two speed fans approximately 10 years ago; two in salon & one in each berth area. Quiet operation & relatively low power consumption.

We have several Hella fans and like them because they are very quiet. We also have a Caframo 757 fan which does a better job of moving air for less money, however they are noise and the blades are exposed. Having some experience with the blades striking my fingers, this is not a big issue for teenage or adult sized hands, tiny hands may feel the blades more but there won't be any lasting damage.

I love these fans. I've tried several and these are still my favorite. They will run a couple days on low and are nearly silent, perfect to have a breeze while you are sleeping. You can put them anywhere or hang them or affix them on a screw. The 7 inch size is the one. The smaller one works but it's a little whiny.

I also have a Caframo Ultimate and a Caframo Bora which might be a little stronger, but are much louder.

Amazon.com. I have two of these and one of them has run 24/7 for over 2 years on low speed. I leave it plugged into the USB receptacle to lessen the chance of mold developing. They are very quiet and draw very little current.

Unless you have a very detailed plan to cover your experienced needs I do not see why there would be a need for 4 fans in a 22' boat. Most sailors I know may have a need for a fan mostly at night for sleeping and mostly on overly humid and windless nights. Invest your money on a hatch scoop to gather the existing breeze and force the flow of air through the length of the boat and out the companionway. Air does not naturally flow around bends so if the cabin has some hard obstructions then a fan would be in order but keep the power consumption and number of fans to a bare minimum.

I don't use all four fans simultaneously. Power on the fan(s) in the space I am occupying.

Can't recommend a specific brand or model, but I'm a fan of rechargeable fans with clips. I think I paid a total of about $100 for 2 of'em. They're quiet enough to sleep next to, run for 2-3 nights, recharge in a couple of hours, I can place them where they're needed.

I agree, these are the best brand imo. I have these ones x2 and have been super happy as they are almost hazard free. Ive hit my head on them several times while running and no issue. Also good for kids.


In my micro cruiser I don't have electrical ran so i run this battery powered one which also has a built in light and a hook that lets it mount at any angle. can use in the cabin or cockpit. Really impressed with it too:
