This is who I used
Bought our boat last year at this time. He was very thorough, although our boat was only 2 yrs. old so not much to find. He is in Port Credit. http://www.pcmarinesurveys.com/ We had the survey done on the hard in March and once I received a favourable survey, closed the deal. The broker recommended and part of the deal was a fixed amount to be held In Trust to be released upon a successful sea trial after launch. We launched and did the sea trial late April. After that I signed off on the hold back that was released to the seller. Good luck.

Make sure...
he is NAMs or SAMs accredited. My advise is to ask around your area... there will be a name that continues to pop up. DON'T GO WITH THE NAME THAT THE BROKER RECOMMENDS (Unless he is you friend)!

Those are associations that anyone can join and call themselves a "boat surveyor". They are no more than a group of surveyors who belong to a named association. rpierpol's comment about asking around your area is absolutely correct.

Depend on the kind of survey you want
If its a prepurchase survey get someone that understands your concerns and will do a complete inspection.If its an insurance survey to keep your underwriter happy go with the drive by surveyor.
