Hi All,

I just picked up a Hunter 22 and am taking the winter to recondition it and get it setup for single handing.

I'd like to add a furler to the jib is there a good reasonable priced unit for a 22' boat that gets used only on lakes?

Thanks!

I added Schaefer Snapfurl unit on our previous boat (Oday 222). It was a good unit for the price. The only downside was that the plastic foil would slide down the forestay while rigging the mast, thereby making it very difficult to pin the fork to the stem fitting. I solved this by using an old vise grip with a lot of tape around it. I attached it to the forestay to hold the foil up when rigging and unrigging. Other than that I never had any problem with it...

James,

ON Ebay right now there are a couple of roller drums for sale. ($89, $123) that a guy
with a little imagination and a length of PVC could easily turn into pretty convincing furlers.

I use a CDI FF2 (I think) and have had pretty good luck with it. But, if I were to have to replace it, I'd have problems sinking that much cash into an old boat.

If you trailer, be sure to support the foil and drum while on the road. Strap it to the mast but it will overhang by a couple of feet.

My H25 came with a hood seaflex. It does a fine job. It isn't much fun to handle if you need to trailer though, although not impossible either.

I'd suggest the CDI furler as an economical choice. They are simple, robust, easy to install and various parts can be replaced if damaged. A new FF-2 model is ~$575 with the ball bearing option.

Take a look at the Aldo furlers. They have aluminum tracks and are really well made. They are also cheaper than most other furlers and can be put on without stepping the mast.
