communication

Having sailed on the Atlantic in club boats with radios which seldomed worked right, and having gotten into some dangerous situations where communication with the harbormaster was essential, and the trusty little cell phone worked it's heart out to help save us, I note from experience that communication has as much to do with the joys of good sailing as does a rudder which does not fall to the bottom of the sea.... Some answers

Well we are back - wish we were still in Avalon as the weather was beautiful and the trip very relaxing until the sail home. Before we left I bought a plug-in AC adaptor as some of you suggested. Did not solve the problem which makes us think that there may be a problem with our larger inverter that came with the boat. None of the outlets work on Battery power YES WE CHECKED AND IT IS TURNED ON! The mechanic will be called on that problem. However, there is a cigerette lighter type outlet above the nav table. We were able to charge both of our cell phones using that device with no problem, so for us, we have a solution to the cell phone charging problem. Now we have to get the outlets working so I can recharge the AC battery on my Nikon digital camera. That did not work in the cigrette lighter outlet and since I had not way to use the charger in the regular outlet ............. Nikon may have an idea for that problem - for a price I'm sure. Thanks for all of the suggestions.

Outlets on?

This from a guy who almost replace the shower sump before I found the switch above the sink. I know you said you turned the inverter on, did you turn on Bus B and the outlets switch? Sure you did, just thought I'd mention it RRegge S/V Allie Kat

Wires switched

In our 35' Legend the negative & positive terminal wires were hooked up backwards, so the cellphone wouldn't work using the DC outlet. We switched the wires and the cellphone charges fine now.

Check your Ground Fault Detector

The AC outlets on the P42 are wired such that one outlet with a built-in ground fault detector protects downstream outlets. The GFD outlet is just like the one in home bathrooms with a 'Test' and a 'Reset' button. If there has been a momentary short at any of the outlets, the GFD outlet would have popped, knocking out itself and all downstream outlets, until you push the 'Reset' button back in. It always takes me a moment to remember this when I encounter a dead outlet once or twice a year.

More 2 cents

Does your cell phone charge when plug it into your car? If it does not then it could be a fuse inside the plug on your cigarette lighter cable (yes some do have fuses). If it has a fuse then you can unscrew the very tip of the plug for the cigarette lighter. The fuse should be spring loaded and pop out. I found about the fuse after about 3 months when a fan stopped working. Good luck.

It Works On Mine

I would have to say that your cigarette lighter does not work or is too far from the battery to receive any juice. I recharge my cell phone every time I am anchoring and it works well.

Linda, etal,...

Just couldn't resist posting to this string, since EVERYONE else has..... My Audiovox cell phone (and dig camera, handheld VHF's, etc) charge just fine using their AC chargers w/ my Heart 25 inverter, while I'm underway or anchored.... Maybe I'm just lucky and have AC chargers that are compatable w/ the inverter; but, I'd ck out some of the issues suggested here before giving up on your inverter's AC.
