Rechargeable Spotlight Batteries

I have a night blaster 2,000,000 candlepower spotlight with a rechargeable sealed lead acid battery. The battery has completely died, and hasn't held a charge well for years and won't take a charge at all now. I have two questions here:

1) It seems that the cheapest way to get a replacement battery for these is to buy another spotlight. Is there a good source for replacement batteries out there?

2) Any suggestions as to how to maintain these batteries? The spotlight seldom gets used, but is indispensable at times. Before the battery completely died, I had it on a charger that was timed to turn on for 15 minutes every day.

As I just replaced mine (the entire 3m CP spot) for $12 at the local hardware store, is doesn't seem worth bothering trying to replace the battery.

Don has the right idea. When these rechargeable spotlights first became available they were in the $30-50 range. Now they are under $20.

It would cost more to buy a replacement battery and pay the shipping on it than to just replace the entire light.

I Bought One Locally

A place called Battery Warehouse; I think it is a chain. The new batter while the same physical size was a more powerful battery and weighed significantly more than the old cheap piece of Chinese crap that came with the light. The new battery I think was six bucks and I think the guy said it was for emergency lights or UPS units.

I just bought a whole new light myself.. but then I found the batteries at Lowes in the lighting section. The battery is used in some emergency lighting sets that they sell ..so they sell replacements..

I won't have one on my boat. Only the direct connect to the cig. lighter type. I had a rechargeable from a "reputable" company who had them made in China. It shorted out while on my boat. I tried to use it and it did not turn on so I figured it was dead. It being the off season and my 12v batteries were in my basement, I put the light down by my bag to take off the boat. I few minutes later I smelled it and saw thick yellow smoke pouring out of it.

Think of ABYC standards and how wire must be connected, insulated and secured properly within a boat's wiring system. These rechargeable lights do not even come close yet people still have them on their boats and a small 12v battery is more than enough juice to start a fire.

No rechargeable vacuums either.

Thanks for the Heads Up

I have two on my boat. I got a Blue Dot from Defender. It's nice to know there may be a battery pack replacemnt. I was just looking for one for my cordless vacuum, and it's cheaper to just replace the unit. The previous one was a Dust Buster and I made up a new pack with cells from Radio Shack. It was never a good performer after that and I figured the replacement batteries were old. Besides, it cost as much to replace them as a new discounted unit. While I appreciate that a corded spotlight is perhaps a better solution, mine stays in the cockpit all night and when you want it, you want it now.
