Recent problems with marineparts.com

Wonder if anyone else has has issues with this formerly GREAT site. I have used marinepartsdepot.com many times in the past half dozen or so years - admittedly for penny-ante orders of little items that were not critical - but they have always been a good source of very inexpensive and good quality marine hardware. Waaayy less than my local W-M store....and good stuff. Limited items, but they've always had just what I needed; and waiting for slow (snail mail) USPS hasn't been a problem for me. Well, two recent orders for replacing some items former owners put on my Hunter sailboat - chrome-plated pig-iron items - corroded so much I had to replace them. No problem with these orders. Fairly quick response and the correct items.

Then I looked at a couple of 90-degree angle fixtures and noted bubbles beneath the chrome there and so I just ordered two 90-degree 7/8" elbow pieces for a good price. What they sent me, however, was two Tee-fittings, 7/8", which I cannot use. I have sent two emails back to them - last and this week. No reply. I have called the phone number on their site and gotten roll-over to voice mail and left three messages, stating the problem and asking for a return call. No reply. And just now I've contacted PayPal, through whom I paid Marine Parts Depot, and they requested I contact them thought their site. I did. We will see what happens.
Caution using Marin Parts Depot. A shame, it was one of my favorite 'go-to' hardware sources. More as I find out. BTW, I ordered the correct items, and they acknowledged the correct items, and their packing sheet listed the correct items...they just sent something else!

Yeah! JGW. I heqr you. What seemed to be a simple SNAFU, just hasn't been addressed. I did not know that Marine Parts Depot - and I've gotten several ads firm them in the past two weeks or so - is selling now on a Yahoo! store front. (Don't think that was the case before. And the order a month or so ago (last on in maybe over 6-10 months) which I paid through PayPal had "Turquois" as the seller providing the items for MPD. My last email parts order confirmation said something like, "This message was sent to you at the request of Turquois, Inc -- Marine Part Depot, to notify you that they have shipped a package to you. " I am wondering if maybe there was a oewnership or management change. I am still waiting to hwear form the bad order. Will post more as I know. I really was a MPD supporter until this last order....and the total was just a paltry $18+ bucks.

Turquoise has been the name on my paypal orders for a long time.

I think its a one man management show and I suspect he has other things going on. So when his small staff of order fulfillers mess up he's not around all the time to fix it. Keep at him, I think you'll eventually get it fixed. At his prices, I'm not surprised with this.

I've been ordering from him for 6 or 7 years, a LOT of small orders over that time. No problems yet.

Good luck, keep us posted.

I too have ordered from them in the past. Happy with the products until you have to return the item for exchange or replacement. There was never a reply to my replacement or refund. I decided then I would never do business with them again.

I'm assuming you're talking about marinepartdepot.com here. I'll personally never order from them again.

I had several successful orders from them. I was happy with the quality of the products and price...until...

I placed an order for a couple of stainless steel tubing fittings. I ordered the wrong size. When I discovered the problem, I reordered the correct size. I then tried unsuccessfully to contact the company to send the wrong ones back. I tried several emails, many phone calls, and left phone messages for them. They never returned my calls, or acknowledged my emails. The web site had instructions on where to send back returns, so I just went ahead and sent the two fittings back there. I was never credited back, and once again, I was never able to contact anyone at the company.

FWIW, these 2 fittings cost me around $33, and I was out that price plus my shipping cost back (and they ended up with the fittings for resale). My 5TH and final email to them contained the following:

"DO YOU ANSWER EMAILS OR PROVIDE ANY KIND OF CUSTOMER SERVICE??!! I HAVE EMAILED YOU SEVERAL TIMES. I HAVE TRIED CALLING YOU AND HAVE LEFT PHONE MESSAGES. I WASTED MY MONEY TO SEND THE RAIL MOUNT HINGES BACK TO YOU. I FOLLOWED YOUR RETURN POLICY TO THE LETTER.

PLEASE CREDIT MY PAYPAL ACCOUNT BACK FOR THESE 2 HINGES. IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO THAT, THEN SEND ME A CHECK!
"

Never again! I have also put all their advertising emails into spam as I have unsuccessfully tried to unsubscribe from their spam-like advertising. That was just insult to injury.

I try to order through this site if I can. It takes a minute to get here because I'm on the left side of the country, but if I can wait a little I will. A little support for a great sailing site, that doesn't kick ads down my throat on every page is worth mounds. Admittedly, I do use an overnight company if I have to have it next day, ( a jobber that delivers to the hill only, not direct to a customer). But if I think SBO has it, I'll order it.

Every time I look at my new jib sheets it just warms my heart. I order all my lines here. And if I've never said it, thanks people!

Couldn't agree more. SBO is a pleasure to deal with. My new halyards came from SBO this spring, and various other orders over the last several years. SBO knows what customer service is all about.

Chris/Seasmith - Agree. SBO is a great site (still waiting for their custom emboidered stuff to come back, though). The thread I started is not about SBO, but about Marine Parts Depot. It is still a site I hope gets on-board with correcting their mis-sent items. NO word yet from them. I went to PayPal - who I made payment to Turquois through - and I (as requested from PayPal) sent a nice email explaining the snafu and requesting they contact me. PayPal is also investigating. No word yet (several emails to their sales address, and three calls (rolled over to an answering service), and a query though Yahoo! (their store front), and the PayPal email, and still no word. (I am so glad SBO does not work this way!) Anyway, I suspect that either I will be contacted by Marine Parts Depot or PayPal may intervene to just give me a refund. (Leaves me with two parts I DON'T need, and then looking for the two I DO need still.) More when there is more to tell. I see others have had good luck with Marine Parts Depot...and still others with order problems are no longer supporters. I am still HOPING that this is a one-man operation (who sells this good-quality SS hardware that he gets probably from some overseas source)...this man (or woman) is off for a week or two sailing to Santa Catalina or somewhere, and when he (or she) gets back, they read thier email/answer phone messages and make everything OK for me...so that I am again a happy customer and strong supporter. We'll see.

I also had a similar issue with marinepartsdepot last year. Like you, I will never got an email response or a live person on the phone. However, the correct part did show up eight weeks later. the documentation enclosed attempting to represent that it was shipped previously and just took eight weeks to arrive.
Regardless, I've come to the point of accepting that anything future purchases from them are done knowing the order may not arrive or be 100% accurate and there will be no exchange or refund. Therefore, I keep my order amounts within what I consider to be an acceptable loss range.
