Just wanted to let my fellow sailors know that my sailing buddies and I just returned from a ten day coastal sailing trip. Leaving Pascagoula, Mississippi on a Friday, we spent our time cruising the Alabama and northwest Florida coast to Pensacola. Although the weather was challenging at times, we had a wonderful trip complimented by 1st place wins for one of my buddies and myself at the Lost Bay Regatta this past Saturday. Held on Perido Bay near Gulf Shores, Alabama, this annual sailboat race is sponsored by the Pt. Yacht Club of Josephine, Alabama. The accompanying photo was taken at Big Lagoon near Pensacola. The next morning the Blue Angels entertained us as they conducted a practice show right above our anchorage. A sleeping couple on a nearby boat were abruptly awakened as the roar of the jet engines blasted the area. It was great! Dick s/v CD EXPRESS

NICE

It's really nice over there. Looks like you are anchored up around Spanish Point. I usually anchor over by Redfish Point, as it's less crowded over there. Sometimes hard to find any room at Spanish. I too have been awakened by the Blue Angels practice and one morning saw one of them come over so low they were making rooster tails. Congrats on the wins. Heading out in that general direction next week, for a week or two.

surprised we didn't see you...

we were sailing the other way, Pensacola to Lake Pontchartrain. We entered west end of Mobile Bay Friday at sunrise, anchored at east end of Petit Bois around 14:00. You must have had great sailing that day, winds out of the NW at 20 or so?

Redfish Point

Chuck, I may still be over that way by the 28th. Am leaving here next Tues. for a couple of weeks. More than likely we will pass somewhere along the way. If you see a Beige trimmed S37, named Candida, give a shout. Always enjoy meeting up with people off this board.

Anchored there Many times

I prefer to anchor in the hole next to the Fort but it is often full. We miss being at the coast!!!!!!! Wheeler lake is seeming more and more boring. As time passes (18 months) the 300 mile drive from Birmingham seems less of a problem. Maybe this spring I'll move to Dog River. Dog river is a little farther than Panama City but straight down I-65 it is faster to get there. Choctawhatchee bay at Niceville is about the closest to Bham but the Mainas are expensive. BTW our BoatUS insurance dropped 50% and our slip fee by 25% by moving to Wheeler. Then there is the gas 600 miles /30mpg = 20 gallons X $2.56/ gallon = $51.20 per trip. So coming down 2 times a month meant $100 at todays prices the prices were higher when we moved. Throw in a couple of meals/trip and we are easily saving several thousand dollars a year by being on the lake. But we miss the coast... did I mention fear of hurricanes??? On the up side for Wheeler Lake the leaves changing in the fall are nice and all of the birds that spend the river are nice. I don't miss scrapeing barnacles off of my prop at all. October 6 we are taking a 5 day cruise Down to Pickwick Dam and back. Fun but nowhere near as fun as going from Panama City to Pensacola. Fresh bass and catfish are a poor second to Lil Tuna. Glad that you had a great time.

Thanks Dick!

You make it great when the air is cold and the boats are on the hard. I love your productions! Still floating, r.w.landau

A couple of Gators at Watson's aBayou near

Panama city a couple of years ago. They are supposed to be around Fort Morgan. There are a lot of gators on the north end of Mobile bay near spanish fort. Someone told me that they saw a big one swiming across Mississippi sound several miles from land. I assume that they are everywhere along the gulf coast. We werea little afraid tolet our dog swim at watson's bayou after several people at the marina saw the two gators.
