Hello Peggy! We have rebuilt our Raritan PH II and have leaks. Is it possible to over- tighten the screws, compressing the gaskets too much? We have all new gaskets and valves, but some seem "puckered" a little. Lots of leaks! Do we need to apply some kind of silicone grease to each gasket? Also, regarding the 1228CW Flapper Valve Assembly, the directions said to orient it one way, but the slip of paper packed with the new valve said to orient it 90 degrees differently. Any suggestions? Thanks so much!!! Buzz

Yes, it's possible to overtighten screws

And that will cause leaks./ No need to apply any grease to gaskets, only the teflon grease that was included in the kit to the pump. I suggest you give Raritan a call about the flapper valve. My GUESS is that they've redisigned it, which is the reason for the slip of paper in the rebuild kit. It may be, too, that you bought the wrong kit. There are two versions of the PH II...the ones made before 6/92 need rebuild kit PHRKII...the ones built after 6/92 need kit PHRHIIC. You DID buy a rebuild kit, and not just the parts you thought you needed??
