Rebuild Yanmar water pump???

I have done this rebuild. To get the old bearings off and the new bearings on I used a hammer and a 6" to 8" piece of 1" dia. PVC pipe. With the end of the pump shaft placed down against a soft wood bench I placed the PVC end over the shaft against the bearing and placed a wood bock on top of the PVC and tapped it with the hammer to slide it down and off. Then the new one on in reverse. Does that make sense? My pump was from a 3gm and the 1" dia PVC matched the diameter of the bearing. The 2gm is probably the same size but, if not, choose the PVC to match.

Yep, just talked to him...he said bring it to the shop and he'd use the hydraulic press. Although the hammer and pipe might work in the steady hands of a skilled craftsman, I'd likely bugger it up good.
Honor the same rules no matter whether you use hammer press, hydraulic press, or other.
A small bore tube for pusher so the push bears only on the inner race of the new bearing.
Even a 6" vise will work as the press here because the pump shaft is so short.

Tapped the shaft out of the bearings with a brass hammer after 'bridging' the shaft/bearings in a 'loose' vise and then using a socket, tapped the bearings onto the shaft. Easy off easy on - reassembled the pump and then realized I'd been shipped the wrong belt. Waiting to reinstall but so far so good - will let you know if any problems but so far so good. Thanks for the good tips.
