Rebuild trailer for 23.5 worth it?

I have a 33 year old 23.5 in great condition. But trailer I think really should have new running gear - axle, leafs etc for me to feel ok towing again. It has pretty obvious toe out. Maybe some of you been thru this dilema. And boat is currently sitting on the trailer at home 75 miles away from water. Safest scenario would be for transport truck to take it to marina, then lauhch the boat, then find shop nearby to do a trailer rebuild. I would guess this would come out to about 3k when all said and done. If any of you have any advice it would be great.

I'd check prices for new and used trailers in your area first. Use trailers around here go for $1,000. Brand new for just over $3,000.

If you have any shop skills at all, swapping out an axle is a piece of cake, as well as an opportunity for a brake upgrade. If you need a trailer for your boat, Id rebuild. Too hard to find one that fits right when it comes to sailboats. The parts are pretty standardized.

I would contact your insurance company. If your trailer frame comes apart on the freeway causing injury to someone, it will cost you much more than 3k. I vote for a new one.

Thanks for the responses. I might ask around at some trailer places to see if all of running gear could be replaced. For a pro it might not be too bad. Looks like everything bolts to the leaf springs and those held on by 2 bolts on each side. The frame itself is in good condition and is a fresh water boat.

Currently pricing out an axle with electric brakes for our Mac25. She’s a 1983 and worth every penny. I will be doing the swap myself. I would not consider a new trailer. In my area, that would be worth more than the vessel.

I yesterday found a local trailer dealer that will redo all the running gear - axle, springs etc. Kind of a splurge but will give some peace of mind. And he is using axle of higher load capacity than original.
