Rebuild Skipper II: Help Peggy Please!!!

I've decided to rebuild my vintage 1988 W-C Skipper II heads. Their prior function by last fall can only be described as hazardous to the user! They started to be like old faithful!

I have purchased the rebuild kits from Thetford and some other parts needed such as the spring for the foot pedal and the packing nuts.

The instructions stated that c seal should be used on the bottom gasket. Thetford no longer carries this. They recommended a silicone sealant. I asked them to clarify if this is silicone caulking and they said no. They were unable to clearly explain what silcone sealant is. Can anyone else clarify?

I asked what should be used to lubricate the leather flap and the pump, they recommended silicone based grease. Peggy, do you agree?

Likely they are referring to Permatex silicone adhesive/sealant or equivalent. Fairly commonly used through marine and automotive engines and available at most automotive or diesel parts retailers. They have a few different formulations. The black is the thickest, most tenacious stuff, but getting it off if you ever pull the piece back apart is a big task. The blue formulation is generally sufficient to seal and much easier to remove if you ever have to do it again.

I'd talk to Jocko before using anything...

Especially before using any sealant.

However, when it comes to a lubricant, I think you'd be safe in using either a thick silicone grease or my personal favorite, a thick Teflon grease from SuperLube...which you can get from Ace Hardware:
