I have a Hurth HBW50-2 and need to rebuild it or buy a replacement. The replacement is either a ZF 6m or ZF 10m which cost between $1100 and $1400. To rebuild it would run about $600. I was told rebuilding the old Hurth didn't always turn out well? Your thoughts. Thanks

Gary: I would have to agree with Ray. I do not know where you are located, but if you can find the master distributors in your region they can give you some insight.

Big IF

IF you are mechanically inclined, or have someone who is then I would say rebuild. There isn't much in there to go bad. Basically clutch packs, bearings and seals. Not much chance any gears are bad. Get a manual, go slow and careful and go for it. You will have to be able to measure clearances and have some tools to do so. Get a manual, read it, and find out how complex it is. May surprise you how simple those things are.

I'm always for rebuilding what is already there, 'cause it will just drop right back in. Anything new almost always needs some things to change.
