General question. How difficult is it to rebed the thru deck suppports for the standing rigging? Also, is there an article that anyone knows of that explains the procedure step by step? It does not seem to be very difficult when looking at it; Loosen a few bolts, pull the thru deck support out, clean it up then rebolt it down. Am I over simplifing, or is that all it takes

could be easy - or NOT

While the mast was stepped, We thought we'd rebed the deck hardware. Removed bolts, could not remove the hardware. Conclusion: Hunter must have used 5200 for bedding on our H31.:cussing: Same thing with the water tank supply cover. Try it though, Catalina may have used 5200.

Andrew:

Are your chain plates leaking? If not, I would leave them alone.
Scott:

I removed the lid on my H'31. It was NOT an easy task, but I got it done. We ended up glasing the lid in place and putting two inspection ports in the tank for cleaning.

No Andrew, that's really all there is to it. I generally don't get in on these sealant debates, however, 5200 ain't one of them that you should be considering. And any boat manufacturer that glues their boat together with it, isn't much of a boat. But I typically don't have much trouble with Catalina's. Look at your higher end manufacturers, and see what they use. There's your answer on the sealant.
