If anyone needs to do this, I did it today and chronicled it so others can use it. It's only one way to do it but it took me about an hour, most of that time was trying to get the wood trim back on.

This also may work for the Catalinas that have the same set up as the 310's.

I uploaded it to the "Resources- Downloads- Boat Specific- Catalina" section of the site. It may take a bit for it to show up there so check back if you dont see it. I can also send it to you if you need it and I attached it to this message.

Fantastic demo and doc. Will come in handy, if/when I have to do it. Meanwhile, can you shed any light on the function of that little hole in the outside of the stanchion. Does it actually feed into the stanchion’s inside?
I have mine taped up at the moment, to be sealed off properly when dry. I had a feeling that I may be shipping saltwater thru this at some extreme heeling/rounding up.
Would appreciate your thoughts.

I originally thought it was a vent hole but the bolt was solid and there was no way to clamp a vent hose to it. It may be there because the vented and non-vented stanchions are the same and all the manufacturer does is replace the large bolt with a threaded tube for a vent hose to connect on the vented ones. Probably saves them some time and money in the manufacturing process. That's my guess

You are probably right, in that somebody used the wrong stanchion or used up a supply. Just noticed that my stanchion base plate has 4 screw holes. Therefore, according to the Cat. Direct Product site, it would/should not have the bolt in the middle – just a hole which would leak onto the deck. Shall not worry any further. Thanks for your info.
