I am looking for advice on rebedding the genoa tracks on my 1985 h31. I am looking for help on how to, what compound to use to reseal the tracks and any advice or tricks. Thanks for the info.
It's a simple job since the tracks are throughbolted and the nuts are exposed in the cabin. It takes two people to unfasten the bolts, one on the deck bolts and one holding the nuts below decks. We used Life Seal for this as for most other rebedding projects. One trick that was recommended by our rigger for any deck hardware is to use a countersink bit on a drill and slightly enlarge the surface end of each bolt hole. This provides a a void for the caulk to fill and creates an o-ring of sealant. We've done this on our last two boats and have eliminated leaks. Good luck.
Our rigger suggested that, when going through deck areas with wood core, clean up each hole and coat the inside with West system epoxy. I use a Q-Tip. This way, if the sealant ever fails, the water will not (theoretically) saturate the wood core and rot it out. Is there any wood core in that area? Maybe not because it is recessed. Check it out.
