Would someone advise me how and is it a major repair to redo chain-plates on a 26s to stop water leaks....?
Thanks for the information. thats what I will do....cheeers0. Unbolt standing rigging
1. Use a drill to remove the top cap of the rivet.
2. Pry up and remove chainplate cover
3. Remove old sealant (I used acetone)
4. Punch rivet body through decking.
5. Tape off area around where chainplate cover will go
6. Put 3M 4200 sealant/adhesive to the backside of the chainplate cover or on deck where chainplate cover will go (whichever you prefer)
7. Put chainplate cover over chainplate (Press down but not so hard as to let out all the sealant as you are trying to form a gasket)
8. Let adhesive/sealant setup for a few minutes
9. Push new rivets through chainplate hole
10. Rivet the chainplate
11. Clean up area and have a nice cold one
Super easy and so worth it as leaky chainplates let in a lot of water. I may have missed a step or two due to the red wine, but that's about it. Someone else may chime in with more details.
cheers
