Rebed Chain Plates Twice / Year!!!

When I was going through the owners manual on my O'Day 34 I read incredulously that they recommended rebedding the chain plates AT LEAST twice per year! WHAT?!? I though once every 3-5 years would be more like it! Maybe 10, when replacing standing rigging!Is anyone really rebedding their chain plates every six months or more often?Michael O'

Rebedding - not me

Have rebed everything on the boat but chain plates and no sign whatsoever of trouble on my '83 OD34.

A Bit Much

Of all the attachment points on your boat, the chain plates probably flex the most (perhaps as much as the stanchion gates you heave yourself up on, not withstanding). So I can sort of see why they may be most critical to keep an eye on, but I agree, twice a year is a bit much. I should also think once every 3 to 5 would be sufficient. I would lift the deck plate though and inspect the bedding every couple of years.DonDon

If it ain't broke...

... don't fix it! This doesn't apply to things like rigging and several othe items that need regular inspection, but it seems to me that if the chainplates don't leak, why rebed them? It's a good idea to keep an eye on them, but there are enough things to fix on a boat already!Just my 2 cents,Trevor
