reassembling the shaft, Combi, etc

Hi,

I am now starting to re-assamble the shaft, the control tube,
and the Combi.
I tried to keep track of all the small details during
the dismounting, but finally I am not really sure what should
be the fore-aft orientation of the pairs of the locking rings
on the shaft an on the control-tube. The rings have jumped, off, etc.
(I have btw just received a new control tube from Steve).

Could you please look at
Yahoo! Groups

and confirm (or correct) the orientation the locking rings ?
Thanks,

Hi,

As I mentioned before, I am re-assembling the Combi....

I am stuck with the clamp nut which keeps the shaft
(the forward, smaller one): it does not go deep enough
into its sleeve, and cannot catch the thread.
This is because the two pairs of locking rings lock too early,
or and they don't go deep enough into the sleeve...

I've tried already twice to go back, remove the shaft,
start again...

The shaft itself and its Woodruf key fit well,
which I check by unbolting the sleeve from the engine and touching
it from the other side.

Before inserting the shaft into the sleeve,
it's rather difficult to move the locking rings on the shaft -
they fit tightly. Also I cannot slide them by hand
into a spare sleeve - so I am not at all surprised that they
stop too early.

In the drawing in the combi overhaul instructions,
I can see only one pair of forward locking rings
(number 13 on the drawing), but I had two pairs there.
Is that normal ?

Any ideas?
It's already three days of this fun with the propeller,
stern gland, and Combi....

Hi Marcin

2 sets of locking rings is correct. I use a cut-off hacksaw to push the locking rings forward, it can be a tad awkward!

The combi is a right bugger!

Cheers
