Are you serious? You want to be one? Or is this a reference to a crew member that you want to bestow some honor on? At any rate, especially if you are after the position in your local yacht club, you need to spell it correctly like Claude did once.

Here is another description from our club. In addition to the simple language from the bylaws, the Rear is in charge of the port captain, race chair and facilities.
(c) Rear Commodore. The Rear Commodore shall be vested with all the powers and shall perform all the duties of the Commodore and/or Vice Commodore in the absence or disability of either. The Rear Commodore shall have all duties related to the physical operation, use or maintenance of the LGYC house and shall have such other powers and perform such other duties as may be assigned to the office from time to time.

Historical Reference
In sailing warships all commands were passed by flags. The ranking, or commanding, officer was in the middle of the formation. The second ranking officer would take the point, at the head of the formation, and the third ranking officer would take the rear of the formation.
The powder used for cannon would quickly obscure warships.
If the signals could not be seen by the ships under the another officer's command, he would take over command of the ships who could see his signals, otherwise he would repeat the signals of the CO.
At the squadron level command was held by a Commodore. At the fleet level it was an Admiral.
For some reason the term or rank of "Rear" stuck, while the term "Fore" was dropped if favor of "Vice".
Rear is the entry level rank for flag officers.
