About a year ago, someone posted a thread like this.... I did the search but could not find it.

Anyway, it was a fun thread so here goes...

This is a link to an ad where the hull color actually changes from white to blue in the set of pictures they post for the boat.

But they do mention that the hulls were painted. Now, some of the blurred pictures, not helpful. And some of the pictures inside show spots that a little bit of cleanup would have made for much better presentation.

Yeah, 90% of the world has a camera in their phone or a digital pocket camera yet I see so many ads with stock photo's.

Yeah... haha...8 years ago. So we are seeing a bunch of pictures from about 8 years ago. And when he does mention upgrades, the time line always starts with "about" As in "She was completely re-fit about 8 years ago" or "I had a survey about 1.5 years ago".

As Dennis points out... how hard is it to take a pic these days.

Just strikes me as odd that someone would put so little effort when asking $36,500.

I love these threads. I remember some of the old one. I've really got to find it so I'm not repeating myself, which is getting to be a problem. The gist of my point with boat ads is that sellers reveal more negative about the boat with their careless language than they mean to. For example, "Recent new bottom" tells a buyer that the boat had blisters and that the seller wants out before they reoccur.

Good news. I didn't repeat myself and don't have to go for that cognitive check up. Here is the title of the old thread:
Pet Peeve with Sailboat Adds

My biggest pet peeve in ads these days is the word 'bespoke'... It is being over-used in advertising like a cheap hooker stowed away on a cold-war era Navy ship. I swear, if I hear another hipster utter the word 'bespoke' I will go from zero to homicidal in 2.4 seconds... They don't even know what it means or use the word correctly!
Overheard while ordering coffee: two hipsters in line in front of me are looking out the window at a parked BSA motorcycle, restored with all its polished aluminum glory;
Hipster 1 "Look at that bike man... rad"
Hipster 2 "Killer Triumph Café Racer, so bespoke bro"
Me "Its not a Triumph, it's a BSA, and it isn't Bespoke"
Hipster 2 "I dunno man, it looks like they did a killer restoration, I'm just saying the look is totally bespoke"
Me "yeah, its a perfect restoration, perfect to original condition like it came from the factory which is exactly what makes is 'totally' NOT bespoke. A custom suit is bespoke because it was ordered by one guy and tailored to fit him personally. That's a factory bike, exactly like the thousands of others the factory spit out in England that year. So before you use cool words, understand what they mean."

Anyway, was Googling other stuff about carbon fiber parts and saw this 'bespoke' dash panel for a power boat. At least in this case they used the word correctly as its a custom order:
About half way down the page is "Paul's 50 foot Sunseeker Camargue"

Hhmmm... "Bespoke"? Out of obscuriousity, does that mean they put the spokes ON, or they took them OFF?

"bespoke" refers to something specially made for a particular person. It could refer to a custom tailored suit, a particularly fine piece of furniture, or maybe even a boat. actually a fairly archaic term (kind of snobby maybe).

I love the ads where the interior pics show junk strewn about. There's the pack rat stacker livaboards but also some where there's just gear about. Yeah, don't straighten up a little before taking pictures of something you want to SELL.

Another cringer is the use of the word "bristol". "She's in bristol condition."
A word reserved exclusively for wannabe snooty yacht brokers trying to attract prospective buyers who also want to feel snooty and pretentious.
Similar to realtors' use of "en suite".

By the way, I own a Bristol. :-D
However, it's only branded as such because she was built in Bristol, RI.
