Re-wiring the boat

Is re-wiring the boat (just replacing and upgrading hardware) something that can be accomplished afloat or is there some reason it should be done while out of the water?

You should be able to rewire the entire boat while afloat. Unless you feel you need to drop the mast...

Agree with justin but it is a huge advantage with any project if you can move the boat close to home.

I just don't want to pull it out after putting it in until the end of the season... if then.

i've re wired two boats inside and also all exterior cabin top/ bow lights while in the water. it was actually quite pleasant to sit inside the boat in pouring rain with a guinness, speculating on where all the new shiny parts could go and where the new 12 v lights and outlets should be added. i had to drop the mast and put it on saw horses to do the the mast top lights and spreader flood lights. a VO Meter with AC DC clamp on was my most handy and favorite tool. and loo at the little 3M wire - marking kit so you can label all of your wires, so nice !

I agree. The majority of the time spent on a wiring project should be on the planning phase.
