Re - Waterproofing bimini top

Hi All:

This year is the year to refurbish the Bimini, and I want to apply a waterproofing product. The procedure is simple, but I wanted to get thoughts on the best product to use on the sunbrella. As usual, the few products I have looked at in West Marine all said they were the best, and lasted the longest.

Any thoughts on keeping me dry would be appreciated

I've had very good results with 3M Scotgard Heavy Duty Water Repellant for some years. As I nolonger can find this on the market, I switched to High Tech 303 Water Repellant. Not as good but usuable.

I have been using 303 products on my bimini/dodger for the past 5 years and the fabric looks as good as new. Wish I could say the same about the stitching.

Jeff, Sailrite has the product used to waterproof sunbrella. It also comes in a gallon ready to use so you can put it in a garden sprayer. This is how I apply it and it works great.

Waterproofing...

I started using the Pure Oceans waterproofing product last season after finding spray-on Scotchgard too expensive for the duration of protection it provided. It's easy to apply and seems to hold up longer.

Campo from Walmart

I use a product from the shoe department of Walmart. It is used to waterpoof shoes and tents. It comes in a spray can and take 4 cans to cover my Bimini and dodger. Last about a year. Sorry I can not remember name it may be Campo.

Second the Sailrite product. You probably do not remember my sail covers Jeff but they are original(30+). I have been using the Sailrite spray since I bought the boat. It is the 303 product: http://search.sailrite.com/?freeTex...egoryName~Sunbrella^subCategoryName~Sunbrella .
