I would like to have all the cabin cushions in my Hunter 33 re-upholstered but I'm havng a very difficult time finding material that looks good. Can anyone recommend material brands and types that they have liked? The material needs to work well in a humid environment as well. If you have any pictures of your new cushions to post that would be helpful as well. I'd like to get some ideas of patterns/colors. thanks, --mike

US Yacht Cushions
Mike: Contact US Yacht Cushions. These guys know what is going on with boat cushions. They have the fabrics, zippers, batting etc. to make good quality cushions. If you look through the photo forum you will see a sample of what they did for my '85 Hunter 31. They do nice work at a very reasonable price.

Visit a reuptable furniture re-upholsterer and look at the hospitality type fabrics a resturant or theater might use. The fabric comes in a wide variety of patterns and is durable and resistant to water and stains. If you take your cushions in with you, they can offer some great options.

Over the winter I made some cockpit cushions, and recovered my own boat's interior cushions, PLUS did our friend's S2's cushions. For my boat I used Sunbrella outdoor canvas on the cockpit and interior seats (mostly because I had a couple yards left over), and a nice stripe on the seat backs. Our friend ordered Sunbrella indoor fabric from Sailrite. Great quality and MUCH easier to work with that the outdoor canvas. They came out great. Two outstanding sites for ourdoor fabric are Sailrite.com and Housefabric.com. Both have great prices. I've ordered from them many times.

Sunbrella canvas not a good solution for upholstery.
When you look at upholstery fabrics there is a rating for abrasion resistance. The Sunbrella canvas products are not very good in these areas. The Sunbrella upholstery fabrics are excellent for these applications.
