I need to re-power my 67 M34. It had a Westerbeke 91-4, 30hp. I've come across a pretty good Perkins 4.108. it's a little overpower but if it will fit, the price is worth it. Any comments, suggestions, or feedback?

Thanks

Perkins are great engines and it is easy to get parts for them.

Too big.

The 4108 is a huge lug of an engine for that size boat. You're going to have problems with size and weight. In addition, going to a 50hp you're never going to be able to put much load on that engine, get it up to temp and not have it coke up. Try and keep it in that 27-32 hp range. In this case bigger is not better. Something in a small 3 cylinder.... Yanmar (3gm), Westerbeke, Universal/Perkins would be a much better idea.
