Hey Guys and Gals: I appreciate the posts on cleaning anodized aluminum. Now about winches. Is re- electroplating expensive and does it last? (Hey LaDonna - Transom trimming looks neat . . I wish I had) Thanks Melody

Replating Winches

Hi Melody, Trying to find someone for a small plating job will make it quite expensive. However, another option is to have them powdercoated. This is where a shop electrostatically applies a colored powder and then bakes the object causing the material to bond with the metal. I had a friend's done a couple of years ago in gunmetal gray and they still look perfect. He races, and his winches take a tremendous beating. The cost was $97.00 for two Barient 20's. Compare that to the $250.00 to $300.00 estimates for re-plating. Hope this helps. Cheers, Bob

Check a Bumper/Auto Chrome Shop

Melody- A friend of mine had his chromed at an auto bumper shop. See if they can do that for you, and ask how long it will last. If it is not reasonable, I would definitely go with the powder look that Bob mentioned. If you are gonna spend 300 bucks on re-plating, you may as well re-place. Best Regards, Rob
