My MD6A runs at 80 - 90 deg C on the temperature gauge and seems perfectly
happy at this (indicated) temp - the engine never seems unduly hot while
running or after a run of several hours. As 80 deg C is the straight up (ie
essentially midway) position for the needle on the dial I assume this is the
temperature it is designed to run at.
I thought that diesels didn't like to run too cool, so all this talk of
50deg C in previous posts is confusing me . . .
I have sailed a Vega with an MD6A that did run too hot - indicated 100 - 110
deg C and the cockpit sole got uncomfortably warm for bare feet. Once the
problem was solved (a kink in an over-long seawater inlet hose causing a
restriction) the temperature went back down to 80 deg C and all seemed well
again.
