I just received my canvas hatch cover purchased from this site. How should I bed the screw in snaps? 5200? Life Caulk? I must admit, I'm not looking forward to drilling the guide holes. Thanks for any help, advise, etc.

Don't know if you need anything!

Gerard: I don't really know if you need anything. These snaps are over the companionway and any small leak is going to go the same place as the rest of the water that got into this area before. I would think that a little lifecaulk would be OK. Just a little advise. My cover is a little too tight. Make sure that your companion way is closed all the way before you put the snaps on. I would secure it wil the lock so you know exactly how snug it needs to be.

I suggest Life Calk

I recently installed the fabric hatch cover, and would advise using a calk such as Life Calk or 5200. The drilling is easy if you follow the manufacturer's instructions on marking the spots where the snaps will attach. Don't worry about the minor cracks in the gelcoat that may appear next to the holes. Steve is right about making sure the hatch is fully closed before you install the cover. I found that rain water pools on top of the cover, and will turn into a "frog pond" if it is not tented up. I used two six inch lengths of water pipe insulation, stood on end beneath the cover, to keep the cover tented up. This worked fine and did not scratch the plexiglass hatch. Don Barber S.V. 5200

I used 5200 for the cover on our 240. It looks and works great.

thanks

Installed cover today and seems to be ok. Looks like a great addition, although my heart stopped 28 times during installation...once for each snap hole I had to drill. Thanks for the advise.
