Try using compressed air to blow obstroctions out of the drain line, and then
ream it with a piece of wire.[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Re: Ice box drain access.

Um..there's a drain? I've got a 1977 Vega # 3175
www.andyt13.com/gala.htm
As far as I can tell the ice box is a square aluminum box with no
drain whatsoever. Maybe it's a refit of some sort but I haven't found
anything that looks like a drain. I was pondering that a bit as a
leak was causing it to fill up with water through the finger hole.
Damned niusance that. Got my styrofoam insulation all buggered as
well.
Humph.

A nice alternative solution is take two empty milk jugs (a gallon or
half gallon each depending), fill them with water and freeze. They'll
keep that puppy plenty cool for a 3 day weekend, they provide nice
cold drinking water as they melt and best of all no water to
drain/bail out.

So, uh...cheers.

As I remember there is a small hole, maybe 1/4 inch, with a metal tube that has a hose that leads to the bildge. I remember washing it out once and hearing the water dripping down below. I don't remember which corner it was but I'd imagine it was the forward inboard side.

I recently had my ice box out. It was quite easy to remove. My drain is
at the aft inboard end of the box, goes down through a hole in the
shelf, proceeds forward a bit, then exits the galley cabinet front
about 10" aft of the salt water footpump (aft of the engine cover) and
drops into the bilge.
Hope this helps.

Peter , Thanks for tip on drain. Mine ended up exiting thru a hole in the cockpit bulkhead on the aft side and then drops into the bilge. the former owner had juryrigged a crappy battery stand that basically squished the drain hose. The hose, by the way had a shielding hose on top of the drain hose. Other than that getting the kink out of the hose near the colbox exit point I should be allright ... Thanks for your message. Pat colligan Vega no 2137 "Puffin"
