Hi Larry, I have not done this job fortunately on my Vega "VIKING". But I did do this on a 1976 O'day 25 I owned while in the Navy. Once you have removed the vinyl material. I found I was able to remove the glue goo with a product called "Goo Be Gone" . It is strong so use plenty of ventilation. Just use a cheap paint brush and apply the "goo be gone". Wait a few minutes and scrape the goo off with a paint scraper. Be very care no to let the Goo Be Gone product get on painted or varnished surfaces because it will eat your finishes fast. The product works well as a paint remover also. Good Luck.With respect and kind
