I'm dissembling, cleaning and lubing two self-tailing Lewmar winches. While I have them apart, is there any way to restore the black color of the self-tailing jaws?

Thanks.

Ted

Re-blacking self tailers

Are the jaws plastic or aluminum?

They oxidize and fade in the sun over the years. Its a common (and not too costly) replacement part.

I used "Wipe New" on mine. Lasted around six months. I'm planning to try "ReNu Pro" next time. It has better reviews.

Both available on Amazon.

if they are pre 1992 models it may be hard to find the replacement parts the upper and lower jaws and the top center cap that is ...there is a place in the UK that has them but they are pricey but can be found.....

Quick question... what are using to lubricate the winches?

Thanks,

Greg

lewmar or harkin winch grease on the gears...light coat and 3in1 oil on the pawls only... just a drop on the pawls
