Re-bedding H41DS Salon Deadlights - Screws or No Screws

Yesterday, I successfully removed the starboard salon deadlight (both were leaking). The attached photo shows the two deadlights on the left side. I got the Plexiglas cleaned up ready for re-installation and tomorrow I will prep the fiberglass recess and install it. The Plexiglas has six holes drilled in it - three on the forward edge and three on the aft edge - but there were no screws in those holes. I suspect that these panels have been removed and re-bedded before because the fiberglass recess has scratches and score marks that progably resulted from a previous cleaning.

My question is this - did the factory use screws only to hold the Plexiglas in place while the sealant cured or did the boat come from the factory with screws in place? If the screws are just to hold it in place until the sealant cures, what is the best practice for sealing the holes after the screws are removed?

After the screw are removed, the holes are filled with black DC 795. These are the side portlights with the original sealing job from the factory and screw holes all but invisible.

If you look carefully at the landing which the acrylic sits on, you may see over an inch of width. This represent a long cure time as the process proceeds through the width (from both edges) and not the thickness of the DC 795. This will represent several months or more of curing time. Hence the need for screws.

Well, I'll be ... Looking back at the surveyor's report it clearly says "Hunter 41AC" but for some reason I got it into my head that it was actually a DS. I did some searching and found photos of a 2007 H41AC which look like ours and also photos of 41DS models that are clearly different.

Thanks for steering me in the right direction.

I did get the starboard deadlight re-installed today. Now for the port side.
