Sorry, I had to redo the post so the pix would show. I think I got it this time.

I've been working on the boat for a couple of weeks now that the weather has got mild enough to work in my "portable boatshop"-

Outside temps in the 40s inside temps 60 to 80.
I was able to dry out the deck core fairly well over the winter and now I've filled the holes with Git-rot. The core seemed to draw it in pretty good.

Today I started on the mast step.

I cut out a piece and exposed the rotten plywood core.

After digging for a few minutes with a narrow screwdriver (all I had handy) I got down to the bottom of the core and into the sides. It looks as if Oday had laid in 3" wide plywood pieces (you can see the resin that was in the seam between the pieces). On the forward side there was a seam of resin and after chipping some of it away it looks like end grain balsa was used for coring. I don't know yet how far aft the plywood extends. Hopefully I can get into it tomorrow with more "specialized" tools

Good luck and keep up the post. I bought my 25 in 2006 and had to get some work done on her. Got her in the water in 2007. You will be very pleased at what a sweet boat she is.

hi, i am also rebuilding my oday 26, which is just a 25 with a little length added to the cockpit. you can see alot of the pix in my thread "cutta hole in my boat". I too have the mast sag llike you, and it had the plywood segement under the mast. not sure what good that did since it was all rotted out. I have read and researched until my eyes are worn out. I decided to replace with end grain balsa, which i just ordered from Defender marine http://www.defender.com I am almost completely rebuilding her. Attached is a picture of what i cut out under my sagging mast.

To get the rotten core up off the inner skig, i took a pry bar (seen in the second picutre just to the right of the hammer) and sharpend the end a little with my angle grinder. I carefully used it and the hammer to scrape up the remaining core. The work was a lot like using a large wood chisel. I did not sharpen it so much as to pose any significant danger of damaging the inner skin if used with care.

You've got your work cut out for this year. Looks like you'll have some epoxy and fiberglass experience under your belt when this is done.

So how is it going. I removed all my teak, and discovered that the toerail screws go all the way through into the cabin. so i'm in the process of drilling out all the holes and am going to reseat the toerails with 3m 4200. and repeat the same process with my grab rails and hatch slides.
Coming soon, have you decided how you are gonna patch that hole under your mast. What I mean is, reproduce the curve. I am in the process of making a curved sanding block that matches the curve of the deck. I have taken some pictures of it, and if it works will post it, probably under "cutta hole in my boat" , but also on this thread too if that is ok with you
so if you run across any good advice on reseating the toerails etc, let me know

Yeah, it's going. Slowly but it's going. Right now I'm just trying to get as much work done on the deck core as I can while I have the boat shrink wrapped- http://forums.oday.sailboatowners.com/album.php?albumid=332
and while the weather is relatively cool. If the temp is 45 and cloudy outside the temp inside the shrink wrap is 50-65. when the sun comes out it'll go up to 80 in just minutes. Last weekend we weather that was 70 and sunny and by afternoon I saw 102 on the thermometer. We got 80 degrees forecast this weekend so I guess I won't be doing any work on it. It's still early here and seasonal temps are 35-60 so I still can get somethings done. I've got the boat in a storage yard without any power source and I plan on taking it to the boat yard as soon as everybody gets their boats in the water sometime next month so I'm limited on what I can do. No fans or corded power tools and keeping the dust and fumes to a minimum. But at least it's dry inside.
I'm pretty much done with filling all the holes I drilled in the deck- both side decks, forepeak (foreward and abeam of the anchor locker), and the cabin top. As for the mast step under the tabernacle, I filled the hole with fiberglass roving and epoxy.

I'll finish filling it with "Formula 27" marine bondo. The area is flat and will be mostly covered with the tabernacle.

Regarding the locker area, when i took the pulpit off, the core was rotted out there also, I think i am going to cut the skin off , and do a similar repair. Especially since the outer skin is deeply cracked and even with chunks missing. I will post some pics on "cutta hole in my boat" this weekend, i hope.

I finished the tabernacle a few weeks ago-

The tabernacle has 5/16" holes and was originally fastened with 1/4" bolts, which allowed it to move around. I refastened it with 5/16" bolts so I don't think I"ll have that problem again.

I worked out a way to fill the 1/4" holes and to match the nonskid but I'm putting that job aside and will get back to it later.

I'm working now on the inside replacing bulkheads and hull liner. After that I'm planning on getting the bottom blasted and painted. Rich

Here is what the cut out area of the pulpit looks like after cutting out the rotten part, filling in the deck then making a raised area to attach the pulpit too.This photo is just starboard of the anchor locker. I did this for both rear attachement areas. I still have to fare with thickened epoxy, then paint.
The reason i put the raised area there is when i went to reattach the pulpit, it did not sit flat to the deck, so the raised area is angled forward to match the tilt of the bases of the pulpit. It wasn't the repair that wasn't correct, the bases of the pulpit just were not welded on straight. So I felt that it would be impossible to get a leak free attachement to the boat if i didn't correct for that.
