Lyric, Vega #120, uses a Navico 5000 tillerpilot We've used it alot and are
fairly pleased with it. Doesn't handle heavy following seas well though.
Navico has been acquired by an outfit called Simmmar. I think product
support is still available for Navico equipment. Their address is:
Simmar
19210, 33rd. Ave West
Suite A
Linwood WA 98036
Had good service from them in the past but I don't know if the address is
still good.call directory information for a phone number first.
Practical Sailor rated Navico better than Autohelm. A friend with an
autohelm pilot with a circuit board burnout found out that the cost for a
new board was going to be almost as much as a new pilot! Caveat Emptor!
We mounted ours on the starboard side on the seat and had to make a
stainless steel bracket to attach to the tiller in order to do so, It worked
well but to get access to the locker meant dismounting the pilot.
A hassle underway but acceptable as the boat would return to course one the
pilot was put back on its bracket. Good luck, Walt Brown.
