Complicated question due to many factors. I used Steve Birch's Stainless plate(contact thru this forum) on the forward side of the beam as well as 1/4" 6061T6 plate on the aft side of beam, thru bolted together with 5/16 s/s bolts. In addition to that, replace all bulkhead to flange fasteners with 1/4" bolts, Diagonal supports on the forward side of the bulkheads from beam to floor , and added backing plates (1/2" marine plywood) on the aft side of the bulkheads under the settees. This gives it a larger load displacement. And finally, a Ballenger folding mast hinge (has a large footprint) to reduce the point loading on the mast to top deck. This reduced the crushing tendency of the original mast base plate. Easy stuff. From: "lachicavega@... I will try to take pics this week and post them because I think others were interested in seeing the modifications as well. I am an aircraft mechanic and rebuild wrecked aircraft for a living so I sometimes forget that not everybody is so mechanically inclined. For what it is worth, I doubled up the bulkhead thickness and bolted through diagonal beams on aft faces of bulkheads.

I also bought stainless steel reinforcement from Steve Birch for forward face of mast support beam and doubled up the beam thickness too.I posted photos a few months ago.Maybe ott but I am a conservative (in boating not in politics)... :)John V1447 Breakaway Sent from
