Hi Richard. As promised awhile back I've measured my storm sail. Luff is 17
feet. Leech Is 12.8 feet, Foot is 8.8 feet. I used the decimal part of my
tape to make the math easier. A perpendicular line from the clew to the luff
measures 6 feet and intersects the luff 6 feet up from the tack. So:
6 X 6 = 36 divided by 2 = 18 and
6 X 11 = 66 divided by 2 = 33
18 + 33 = 51 sq feet.
Measurements are approximate but close. The sail was built for the Series 1
Vega by Neil Pyrde. Triple stitched with bronze hanks.
It flys on an approximatley 18" wire pennent. International orange in color
and I think its made out of 9 oz cloth, or maybe its 8 oz.
I'm not sure about the storm sails for the Catalina 25. Lighter boat might
use a lighter cloth. I did use a Catalina 25 main sail for awhile after I
destroyed my origional main. It worked great.
I googled Catalina 25 storm jibs and found a couple of them. One at 36 sq ft
and 7 oz cloth the other at 35 sq ft and 6 oz cloth.
