If you really want to get "fast and dirty", do what I did and "whip" (tape together) the new halyard to the old with electricians tape. Or you could one-up me by using duct tape, but that might be going too far.

I did this when I replaced my halyard. It worked fine. In fact, mine was
even more sketchy: I had the two ends whipped together as a butt splice
using only the whipping twine to join them. It pulled through the masthead
sheave just fine.
