We put a separate throttle control on when we had the
variable pitch prop which helped. A separate throttle
control allows you to set your engine speed to be
constant, then you can adjust your prop pitch with the
existing lever to get whatever speed or movement you
want. We can back our boat with no problem after some
practice. Take your boat out in open water near a
buoy, if you can, and practice with that being your
slip. This helped me quite a bit. I start to back up
with the tiller about half over until I get some
momentum. You can feel when the tiller pulls all the
way to one side that you have enough momentum to turn.
You must get some weigh on to have good steerage.
If you want more info on the throttle control and
installation, please email us.
Good luck and happy sailing.
