HI Chuck
We received our most welcome copy of the AVA
newsletter today. We read it cover-to-cover before any
of the other mail. Thanks for the second copy.
I will also check with the sailing rags in Seattle to
see if I can post a notice about the rendezvous at
Port Browning. Wish I had thought of it earlier.

AKVAVIT is back in the water and we took our first
trip of the season to Blake Island, which is a marine
park across from Seattle. It's my grandson's favorite
place.
We had a day of pouring rain and a night of howling
winds but stayed dry and snug.

As soon as he is out of school and our babysitting
duties are over for the school year, we plan to take
off and head north on AKVAVIT. We will be anxious to
meet everyone in Port Browning. Brian, we will be
there on Fri eve and will bring some good wine.

Fair winds,
Judy Schwan

Hello
Judy:

Diana
and I look forward to meeting you. I have checked the tides myself and plan to
be in Port Browning on Friday evening as well. Diana says that we need to
discuss a potluck dinner and / or... we'll discuss this and other options as we
get closer to the meeting date.

On
another note. Diana pulled me up the mast on the weekend and I replaced my mast
light, installed an anometer and wind direction indicator. It is amazing how
reassuring it is to have the foot pegs on the mast. It makes the
work very easy.

For
all those gas engine enthusiasts...mine is working great with not problems at
this point. Very easy to work on and as Bill knows, I have a spare. I
thought that if someone had a shaft / prop unit, that it would complete my
inventory of spare parts.

For
the guy looking for a distributor...Last year I replaced the distributor cap,
points and condensor with a 1965 volvo set available new at the local
automotive shop...I imagine the whole distributor is of the same make. I have
heard that VW parts work as well...

Cheers
all...

Brian,

Thanks, I'll keep the volvo parts in mind. There's an
internal problem in the distributer, that I caused when I pried off a very
old and frozen rotor (a costly lesson for this amateur). With a downloaded
distributer diagram from Fors Marin, the Albin motor company and web site,
I got brave enough yesterday to jump in and start to tear it down. Didn't
have to go far before I found two broken springs. That part is not
listed in their online catalog so I don't know if its available. I'll be
calling Marin or J.Stanton (who seems very knowledgeable on albin motors and has
been good responding to e mail questions).

The original problem is still the carburetor. I've had it
on and off at least six or eight times for cleaning, tinkering with the float,
etc. The main chamber was pretty dirty and is very pitted and scarred from
corrosion. There may be corrosion elsewhere or dirt or scale clogging it.
Stripping it and soaking the parts didn't help.

I've had the engine running, just barely. The longest was
for just about a minute. That was before I busted the distributer. It was
reported to run well when last used several years ago.

My engine is an O21. The distributer is the same on the
O21 and O22. My carburetor is a
26 VBN 2, the one listed for the O22 but apparrenty put on
some O21's. If anyone has either part that they'd be willing to part with,
I' sure like to hear from you.
