hi bill bach and sdteve wallace,

read your mail on repowering, shaft seals, and
propeller sizing. have a couple of suggestions,
a- for the prop. contact a reputable propeller shop
giving them the boat weight, length at waterline, and
all the info on the engine, horsepower, and all the
performance curves, (rpm - horsepower ranges etc.) the
prop. shop can fix you up so that you only have to do
the job once.on the shaft seal, I used the standard packing type
with flax packing. the teflon packing will cut into
your shaft over time. now the sneaky part, the seals
come in 2 types, one for 12 kts. and less, the other
is for 12kts. and more. the 12kts. plus has a water
injection port aft of the packing. an ordinary grease
fitting will screw in the hole and 20 or so pumps of
grease will give you a dripless shaft seal at any
speed for any lenght of time. another good thing about
this install is that the shaft packing nut only need
be hand tight.

if anyone has any questions about installs, etc let me
know, will be glad to share what i have learned.

I look
forward to seeing you there Judy.

Here are all the details.....for the
Pacific Northwest Rondezvous

Place: Port Browning, North Pender
Island, Canada
Date: Friday June 29 to Monday July
02, 2001(let me know if you will be coming in on the Friday or the
Saturday)
Cost: $21.60 / day (does not include
electricity)

I have
contacted the Marina and talked to Lela. Six (6) spots have been reserved in my
name (Brian Hofler). At this time I have had positive responses from: Judy and
Ken - Seattle

Gene - Oak Bay

Mike - Widbey Island

Myself and Diana - Crescent Beach

By my
count that is four (4) vessels...therefore, if more want to come (2 spots
available at this time), please indicate as soon as possible. If additional
berths are required, then I will phone and (hopefully) secure more. Incidently,
let's keep it simple. No one is expected to pay if the berth is not occupied.
However, please let me know your ETA on the day you're arriving and the date you
intend to leave. After all, courtesy is part of owning a
VEGA.

PS -
because of the value of the American Dollar, youse guys (gals) bring the wine
eh!....
The
enclosed JPG's are from a book entitled Gulf Island and Vancouver Island - Sooke
to Nanaimo by Anne & Laurence Yeadon-Jones. It is the
best.

Cheers
