Thanks Henk:

............for your offer to give me the address for a sailmaker in the
Netherlands that sells dodgers. I no longer have the frame - it was REALLY weak
- I think it was 1/2" aluminum tube. I'd like to get a heavier frame that was
more stable. I also do not have any of the hardware that is used to attach the
dodger to the boat, so I would need that too. Am I asking too much? Why don't
you give me the address and I can contact the sailmaker for the details.

Thanks very much

Hello
David:

I have
another idea. I am also investigating the cost of a new dodger / cockpit
enclosure for my Vega. There is a small company (husband / wife) that makes
covers etc. associated with the sailing club I belong to. They have already done
some work for me and I have seen a complete dodger / bimini project that they
completed for another vessel. They only use stainless steel tubing and high
quality fabric etc... very strong. Therefore:

1.
Would you like me to enquire about the cost for a dodger with all the on deck
fittings?
2. If
so, we may be able to get a better price for two or more.
3. If
we use the same colour it may be cheaper. But I have already started with a dark
navy blue.
4. The
more Vega owners that want to participate, the lower the cost for all of
us.
and
finally:

The
Canadian Dollar (peso) is 40-50% lower than the American Dollar...Think you
might be interested?

Cheers

Brian,

Sounds interesting. I've been looking for someone to make a dodger and frame like that for Lealea for a couple of years (Coincidentally in Navy blue). I was thinking of having a frame for the extension made that would replace the after lifeline stanchions and go over the cockpit sort of like a roll bar. It would have to be strong enough to take my weight swinging on it (175lbs). Anyway, I'd be interested in seeing a diagram or photo and may be willing to participate in a group purchase.

BTW three of us here in Honolulu got together and made a deal with North Sails for three sets of sails for our Vegas. Doug Lupton put it together for us. $780 for the Main and $663.75 for the working jib with numbers and logo on the mainsail. They came out to the marina and measured each boat. They actually made three different sets since each of us had slightly different requirements.

Aloha,

Dear Chuck:
By now you should have received our check for our
membership renewal. We have been members of the Vega
Association for 3 yrs but never received a copy of the
Vega Owners Maintenance and Repair Manual.
We wondered if it would be possible to get one now.
Thanks for the great job you have been doing. We
really enjoy the newsletter and webpage.

I'll
let you know. I am meeting with the manufacturers on Sunday. It seems to me that
a dodger / bimini system should be the same on all Vega's ?? As well,
they can sit independently or be part of a fully enclosed
system.
