Hi George,
Measured our setup, unfortunately the boat is still on the trailer as
summer rolls in.
Distance from mid-point between the two axles to the tip of the bow is 4.47
m or if you like, 447 cm. I am talking about the front tip of the
fiberglass and the stainless cap that covers the tip, not any part of the
pulpit bars that stick forward a bit.
This seems to be satisfactory. We have towed something like 12,000 km,
including three one-way trips between the Great Lakes and the Pacific, over
the Rocky Mountains. We carry a ladder and camp in the boat when
travelling the long distances. Sometimes get some funny jokes from
neighbours when we pull into a campsite on the prairies (Once in a river
valley in the Alberta badlands: "Do you know something that we don't
know?"). We tow with a 1978 former Mounted Police Ford van rigged with
load levellers and gadget to work the electric trailer brakes. Van has 5.8
litre engine, and the engine temperature has been pretty thrilling at times.
